Events held to celebrate the logging industry that provided an economic base in rural communities were places to showcase real working skills in a rodeo like setting. Spectators could cheer on their favorite choker setters, pole climbers, and sawyers of both sexes. Estacada's Timber Festival was held every July at a specially built timber bowl near the River Mill Dam.
