Back in the Age of Aquarius, underground cartoonists changed the comics medium forever, and their achievements are widely recognized today ... artistic autonomy, the freedom of expression without censorship, and the license to tackle any subject or genre. They also demanded ownership of their intellectual property, and royalties paid by publishers based on sales. These things are taken for granted by most cartoonists today.
